  • COST ACTION G2: Paysages antiques et structures rurales: The use of geographic information systems in the study of ancient landscapes and features related to ancient land use

Abstract

Ancient forms of land use produced structures (field divisions; roads and paths. water control systems) which can still be observed today. There is a need to evaluate this heritage and its impact on present-day landscapes. Cost Action G2, Paysages Antiques et Structures Rurales (PASTA), was therefore established in 1995. The action has four working groups, corresponding to axes of research. One of these group, 2 - Methodology and Informatics, is concerned with metrology, modelling and analysis and also with the integration of these models with environmental and settlement data. Geographic information systems (GIS) have thus been a central concern of the group and was the subject of this workshop. This workshop took place in Spring 1996, and these proceedings are one of its outcomes.
