The paper presents work dealing with the mechanical integrity of Al(2)O(3) scales which grow at high temperatures on the Fe-based oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS)-type alloy MA 956. The main objectives concern the assessment of the formation and evaluation of scale defects and their influence on mechanically induced scale failure. The experiments were carried out at 1100 C for a maximum exposure time of 5200 h under isothermal creep strain.
