Abstract

The research workshop organized within the context of the research and development European Commission Environment Programme in Würzburg, 11-13 December 1995, was the first large-scale meeting concentrating specifically on the research for the protection of indoor cultural heritage. Around 90 experts took part to present and discuss new technologies for the assessment of the effects of environmental conditions on indoor works of art. All the papers and posters are published in this special issue. Five indoor cultural heritage research projects funded under the European Commission Environment Programme were presented individually and a thematic network linking them together was established with a view to increasing European research efficiency.
