  • Preparation and characterization of coal samples and maceral concentrates for studies on gasification and combustion reactivity of coals in combined cycle processes

This project aimed to establish a series of well characterized coal samples (standards) in order to support coal research; to investigate the statistical parameters of coal analysis; to study influence factors (such as sample preparation) on measurement results. From the results of this project it may be concluded that it is feasible to demonstrate the comparability and traceability of measurement results within an inter-laboratory study. However, methods used for sulphur determination are not comparable. For most parameters, no dependence of the reproducibility and or repeatability on the grand mean could be found. The interlaboratory study programme also showed that the use of two independent statistical methods for valuation, carried out under the same conditions and constraints, does not lead to different results in general.
