Abstract

This is a continuing project to improve and develop plant breeding technologies. Focusing on gametic cells, the aim is to increase the number of plant species which can be bred using microspore and ovule cultures, as many species remain resistant to this approach. The project partners have been divided into four working groups, researching the biochemical and molecular mechanisms in currently responding species. The findings from this will be applied to the development of protocols for resistant species, many of which are important for European agriculture.
