In non-oriented 3% Si-Fe sheets, the microstructure and texture of the hot rolled material plays an important role in the development of texture and grain size distribution of the final sheets. The partners have investigated the selective growth of grains during secondary recrystallization (important for texture and grain size) using a statistical model of grain growth. Microstructure and texture evolution of commercial non oriented 3% Si-Fe and industrial steels were also investigated at different stages of the manufacturing process. Comparisons with modelled data has shown that the statistical model is able to predict quantitatively the grain growth mode and textures. Such prediction capability is very important for the production process control and improvement of magnetic properties of currently produced steels.
