Abstract

The most commonly used mechanical flatness actuators are the 4-Hi mills with bendings, the 4-Hi mills with work rolls shifting (WRS or CVC) and the 6-Hi mills. The aim of this project has compared and discussed the efficiency of mechanical actuators. The partners have developed a sensor to measure the pressure distribution in the roll bite when the mill is statically loaded. Also, they have developed a numerical model of the elastic behaviour of the mills with different flatness actuators. With the pressure sensors, the actuators efficiency to modify pressure distributions can be measured. The numerical model measures the efficiency of the mechanical actuators in terms of equivalent work roll crown or equivalent bendings.
