Abstract

A new ABC-test is a new generation corrosion test, based on actual environments and on corrosion mechanisms. Corrosion tests are useful when developing and classifying new products and for the development of pre-treating, coating and finishing processes. The test is based on a procedure of statistical translation of microclimates to a test cycle. The ABC-test cycles rely on the quantification of several parameters. These include humidity profiles, temperature profiles, periods of wetness, chemical loads and light exposure. This method is suitable for indoor and outdoor climates. The ABC-test can discriminate between good and bad product performance and corrosion results during tests are similar to product performances in practice.
