Stress evolution and flatness modelling in steel platesFunded under: FP4-BRITE/EURAM 3
This project aims to modelize the evolution of stresses in a plate after rolling in order to identify the most influential flatness parameters. Heavy plate flatness is important for quality control where plates should be free of defects and should have a small level of residual stresses. Each step of the plate process has an important effect on the internal stresses of the plate and plate flatness. A modelization of the levelling shows the mechanism of flatness defects elimination and the effect of various leveller adjustments on internal stresses. Air or accelerated cooling has been modelized by taking into account the interactions between thermics, mechnics and metallurgy. The levelling model and the cooling model have been coupled and a sensitivity study has shown the effect of the most influential process parameters on residual stresses.
