Optimizing the Size of Sampling Units in an Area Frame
Area frame sampling has been widely experimented in many fields, such as agricultural survey or forest inventories. In many cases sampling units are area elements of a certain predetermined size. The choice of this size is an important element for the cost-efficiency of the sampling design. Sampling units can be often considered as a cluster of smaller units on which information is available for a covariant, such as the same magnitude to be evaluated in a previous date, or a land cover map with a certain degree of approximation.
