In this study the importance of test conditions for the cyclic oxidation behaviour of TiAl-based intermetallic alloys are discussed. In particular specimen handling, different batches, and the isothermal hold-time in relation to the oxidation behaviour are investigated in more detail. It was found that small differences in the experimental methods or material properties can affect the the oxidation behaviour of these materials. This can cause misleading results, indicating that care should be taken of these employed for cyclic corrosion testing.

In addition, the importance of a code of practize for cyclic corrosin tests is indicated, concerning the development of standards and guidelines on how to conduct tests which is vitally important, also to make a comparison of results from different organizations possible. .
