Plastics and the Environment
The paper describes alteration processes of common plastics under environmental conditions and the chemical mechanisms which govern the decomposition of polymeric materials during incineration. Emphasis is given on the formation of hazardous compounds such as the polychlorinated and polybrominated dibenzodioxins and phenols during combustion of different types of polymers and on the evaluation of possible environmental implications.
