Abstract

The computerized FAO-map of West Africa makes regional modelling, using various pedo-transfer functions, possible. The establishment of a West African soil profile analytical database linked to the soil map containing data derived according to standard methodologies would strengthen the database system significantly. Based on the experience from the establishment of a similar database for Europe a proposed methodology for a West African soil analytical database is outlined. Such a database could prove invaluable for a wide range of agricultural and environmental interpretations.
