The role of the JRC and the Importance of the Independent assessment in the environmental field
The JRC is the corporate research centre of the EC and forms an integral part of the Commission. The mission of the JRC is to provide demand- driven scientific and technical support for the conception, implementation and monitoring of EU policies.As a service of the Commissionm the JRC functions as a centre of science and technology reference for the Union. Close to the policy-making process, it serves the common interest of the Member States, while being independent of special interests, private or national.
