The Environment Institute, in the framework of a Third-Parties-Work project and in cooperation with an Italian drinking water company, the Ente Autonomo del Flumendosa, Cagliari/sardenia, developed a concept, which is based upon two different lines. In the province of Cagliari thirtyfour wastewater treatment stations produce about 50 . 10 m of effluents yearly, all of which are lost to the sea today, and might be recovered for reuse, for example in agricultural irrigation. A high number of small and specialized industrial companies produces wastewaters, which might be recovered inside the factory for specific reuse, thus lowering total water consumption and pollutant discharge to the wastewater collection network. To this end, a mobile wastewater treatment unit (WTU) on van-basis has been developed and constructed.
