Abstract

This paper describes the PsD tests on the "Palazzo Geraci" model with base isolation performed at the European Laboratory for Structural Assessment (ELSA).For those tests the base isolation was implemented by use of a substructuring technique within the PsD scheme so that the isolator device was tested simultaneously with the structure but without mechnically attaching them. The coupling of the system was fulfilled by the software within the PsD method which allowed using different scales for the structure and for the isolator specimens as well as the adoption of a convenient number of isolators. The used type of elastoplastic isolator showed to have some interesting advantages in its application.
