Abstract

The advanced integration of various and distributed data and information sources (remote sensing, in-situ and numerical data) will significantly improve the quality and capabilities of decizion making in management activities for a sustainable development of coastal areas. This paper presents the objectives, the requirements and the general conceptual design for an information system to address the information needs of various clients and customers (administrative, commercial, research) involved with coastal zone activities. The realization and implementation of the information system is in its initial phase and is one of the Application Projects in support of the Services of the Commission launched in the frame of the Centre for Earth Observation (CEO) Programme.
