Abstract

Hot and cold rolled strip steels, which combine high strength with cold formability, have been developed using the Transformation Induced Plasticity (TRIP) mechanism. Hot strip production in plane strain compression was simulated, accompanied by evaluation of transformation behaviour, CAPL tests and simulations were carried out, and tests for the production of TRIP hot strip. The content of silicon, manganese, carbon and further element additions was varied, and concepts with aluminium, copper, nickel and chromium addition without silicon were also tested. The steels stand to benefit the car industry in terms of safety and light-weight body construction.
