Abstract

The model developed studies fuel injection, particularly coal, to maximize the quantity of coal injected into a blast furnace and minimize the coke rate. In practice it is difficult to assess the optimum combination which influence the degree of combusion of injected coal - size, volatile content, hot blast temperature, oxygen content of the air, for example. Consequently, a mathematical model of the blowpipe, tuyere and raceway of the blast furnace has been developed. The model can also be used to study the influence of iron ore injection on a simpler scale.
