The model (or equation of state) was developed to predict the temperature-pressure relationship of liquids produced from coal. Coal liquids can be used in a variety of applications, such as oil produced from coal as a substitute for crude oil. The equation of state predicts the pressure in a system for pure substances and for simple mixtures, using experimental data (vapour pressure data) and the addition of the pure substance data (of each component for the mixture). The performance of the model can be assessed in both cases against experimental data. In the final step of the modelling process, the coefficients of the equation of state are calculated. It is anticipated that the model could predict the behaviour of oil with a variety of components. The technology can also be put to use in the conversion of biomass, in the reduction of the amount of waste produced and the saving of energy resources
