Abstract

In the present study the moisture status of the land surface is monitored using the daily evolution of the evaporative fraction (EF). EF is defined as the part of the available energy used for evapotranspiration, ie, the latent heat flux. This quantity is regarded as being indicative of the moisture status of the surface cover classes, mainly consisting of natural and agricultural vegetation. The results of this study show a realistic evolution of the EF during the summer season.
