  • Accelerator Driven Systems - An Ecological and Sustainable Nuclear Option for Future Option for Future Energy Generation? Profileration and Waste Toxivcity Considerations

At present nuclear reactors provide approximately 17% of the total electric power requirement globally. This figure is not likely to increase in the near future due basically to the public perception of this technology. In particular, the three main problems usually associated with nuclear energy, ie the possibility of severe accidents, the profileration of nuclear weapons, and the long term disposal, appear not to have been resolved in the eyes of the public. In addition, the present implementation of nuclear power is by no means a sustainable energy option. In this paper we address the issue of profileration and waste with a view to clarifying the situation.
