Removal of hydrogen sulphide and ammonia in coal gasification power generation systems
This project investigated a range of sulphide removal sorbents and ammonia reduction catalysts over a range of conditions relevant to various combined cycle coal gasification technologies. The work was undertaken as a collaborative project by Coal Technology Development Divizion (CTDD) of British Coal Corporation, KEMA and Rheinbraun. Each partner used existing bench-scale facilities to carry out tests using a simulated fuel gas. CTDD installed a hot gas NH3 reduction system on an existing pilot scale gasifier and tested catalysts in order to order to identify potential sorbent poisons in the fuel gas. Rheinbraun installed a hot gas desulphurization system on an existing demonstration plant and undertook long-duration testing of a novel oxidation process.
