The ETEX experiment was initiated in 1992, cosponsored by EC, IAEA and WMO. It involved controlled tracer releases, sytematic encitonmental monitoring at up to 2000km, the collection of model predictions in simulated emergency response conditions and the evaluation of these predictions. This paper contains a brief summary of the preperations for the field campaign and the experiment and contains the main findings of the dispersion modelling results and emergency response analysis including statistical aspects of comparison between model output and observations and emergency response modelling.
