Abstract

The report describes the stages of the AT1 decommissioning project. Between 1989 and 1995 work has been focussed on the following operations. The specially designed ANTENA machine has been used to remotely operate dismantling of highly contaminated dissolution cell 903 and extraction cells 904 and 905. The same machine and a diamond cutting disk were also used to dismantle a reinforced concrete wall. Radioactivity measurement and conditioning of waste from these high-level cells required installation of an ? counting station and the construction of a ''workshop'' cell with modular stainless steel panels. Explosive cords have been used to dismantle fission product storage tanks. Data on costs, occupational exposure and working time for the dismantling operations were also generated.
