Abstract

The Association FKZ-EURATOM contributes to various fields of the European Next Step Fusion Technology Programme. Work is strongly focussed on the ITER Engineering Design Activity. Development of superconducting magnets and microwave heating systems are equally important for the stellarator project Wendelstein 7X. The report describes a range of activities undertaken. These include the upgrading of the TOSKA magnet test facility to make it suitable for testing the prototype coil for W7X initially, and later the ITER toroidal field model coil. Major modifications are also being made to the power supplies and fast switching system, making it suitable for the high current, fast discharge operation of the ITER model coil. Other work includes development and testing of prototypical components of the ITER machine, and demonstration of a technical process for tritium recycling from plasma exhaust
