At IRMM, the reaction 238U(n, f) below and above the threshold in the fission cross section has been recently studied with a twin Frisch-gridded ionization chamber. The neutron enrgy range covered up to now streches from 1.2 to 5.5 MeV.

The two-dimensional yield and TKE distributions as a function of mass have been fitted by a quasi-gaussian curves corresponding to the standard fission modes predicted by the multi-modal random neck-rupture model of Brosa. In parallel theoretical calculations have been performed in the frame of this model and compared to the experimental results.-+- -
