Abstract

A major part of research in industrial safety involves the modelling of the chemical and physical phenomena associated with major industrial hazards. In the area of heavy gas dispersion (HGD) there are many models of varying quality and applicability, each with merits and disadvantages, and this plethora of models presents a baffling situation for those having to choose and use models. The CEC model evaluation group therefore set up an expert group on heavy gas dispersion, one of the aims of which was to produce an evaluation protocol specific to HGD models. The activities of this group have resulted in a tested heavy gas dispersion model evaluation protocol, a list and classification of available models, and a list and classification of relevant data sets.
