The purpose of this intercomparison study was to harmonize scales of spectrophotometric measurements of regular transmittance in the European Union and to explore the limitations of currently available transfer standards. Each participating laboratory measured as many as possible of 16 stated wavelengths in the range 200nm to 3000nm. Six sets of six filters with differing transmittances were prepared, with the co-ordinator measuring all six sets and the participants one set each. The results indicate that the non uniformity of the filters and not the measuring instruments was the limiting factor in the differences between laboratories. This means that, while the harmonization of the scales of spectrophotometric measurements was not achieved, the limits of currently available transfer standards have been quantified.
