Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The construction of any energy power plant will have many impacts on the surrounding society, and whether or not these are generally seen as positive or negative will depend on the points of view of those concerned. This study represents a first attempt to evaluate the socio-economic impact of renewable energies at national, regional and local level in the Southern Mediterranean region. The main impacts considered are on social welfare, migration flows, technology status, culture, security of energy supply, and on the environment. A questionnaire was prepared in order to assess the impact of each renewable energy technology on the socio-economic environment. The questionnaire was used to analyse renewable energy plants around the world, and an evaluation of their impact was based on the results.
