Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The study concerns the feasibility of mobilizing resources for the diffusion and transfer of biomsss energy (bioenergy) R&D results in a region of Spain. Bioenergy systems have been identified as potentially useful, environmentally-friendly energy sources, often providing a stimulus for rural development. The R&D effort in bioenergy is often widely dispersed, and difficulties are encountered in transferring laboratory results into commercial applications. The study proposes to set up a regional biomass support centre (BioCentre) in the Spanish province of Soria, to facilitate exploitation of bioenergy R&D results. The creation of the BioCentre is likely to have many positive impacts on the local community. These include job creation and economic growth, better utilization of natural resources, greater regional energy independence and a cleaner environment.
