Abstract

To address the European strategy for acidification and photochemical pollution reduction, a proposal of directive for solvent mission abatement from industrial activities has been launched by the Commission. Among considerable work to be achieved, the I.P.P.C. Directive has found it necessary to consider the need for defining the best available techniques for reducing Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC). A large number of techniques are available and have been successfully tested by CITEPA for VOC emission reduction. Emissions may be reduced in two ways. Firstly, by acting on the process itself by implementing a Solvent Management Plan, modifying the solvent base media or modifying the process. Secondly by modifying the flue gas treatment by a number of methods including activated carbon adsorption, condensation and so on.
