Control of straightening operations for optimization of product propertiesFunded under: FP4-BRITE/EURAM 3
Developed a 3D Finite Element (FE) model of the roller straightening process, to analyse and understand the processes involved in the straightening of long products in the steel industry. Straightening processes can lead to undesirable distortions and residual stress in the product. The model allows for the initial stress state of the product and also takes into account the material property changes occurring during the process. Operating strategies for optimum product properties can thus be determined. As straightness requirements are becoming increasingly stringent, the development of an automatic measuring system for measuring long product straightness has been undertaken.
