Abstract

Following on from the work of ETEX (European Tracer Experiment) - evaluating the capability of different institutes to predict in real-time the atmospheric dispersion over large distances (whole Europe) of inert pollutants - the ATMES II modelling exercise was launched. Participants calculated the concentration field of ETEX first tracer experiment using ECMWF analysed meteorological data as input to their own dispersion model. Modellers could also send data obtained with a meteorological analysis different to ECMWF. The model's characteristics used by participants are given, the statistical methodology used, and the results of the statistical evaluation, and a comparison between model performances in ETEX and ATMES II.
