Manual for Monitoring European Lakes Using Remote Sensing Techniques
As major freshwater resources for human, aesthetic, scientific, recreational and economic needs, the water quality of lakes and reservoirs is already threatened, with water exploitation gradually increasing. Management programmes for water monitoring are hampered by a lack of knowledge concerning current water quality and quantity status. The SALMON (Satellite Remote Sensing for Lake MONitoring) project is based upon the co-operation of limnologists and remote sensing specialists, to answer how lakes can be remotely sensed and monitored from space. Describes the parameters selected for quantification of lake water quality and the methodologies adopted.
