Industrialization of the sensor for continuous monitoring of the zinc coating weight on hot galvanized wires - J.C.Baumert, J.Jacque, M.Cuche The design of one selected eddy current type sensors (based on ECSC project 7210-GB/503) has been improved, to operate in an industrial environment, by an enhanced sensor head and mechanical support design, and an industrial electronic control module. Software has been developed to monitor, display, store and retrieve the data resulting from the sensors. Twelve complete sensor units have been built and installed on different wire galvanizing lines for continuous coating weight monitoring. A special system using two similar measuring heads has been assembled, able to monitor in-line the coating weights and coating eccentricities on galvanized wire, again with an electronic control system and custom computer program. Industrial trials have been performed on two different sites.
