Abstract

With the intensified demand for improvements in steel quality during all stages of steel production, the application of vacuum technology to the tundish of a production plant slab casting machine is seen as a means of achieving improvements in product quality and process operability with reduced costs. This project therefore aimed to prove that the operation of the vacuum tundish system is viable in a production plant environment, to demonstrate that the application of this technology would be commercially advantageous for the product, and to develop and refine the engineering designs and operating practices necessary for the full commercial application of the technology.
