Kinetics and products formation of the gas phase reactions of tetrafluoroethylene with OH NO(3) radicals and ozone
Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) was used to determine the reaction rate constants and products for the reactions of tetrafluoroethylene (C2F4) with OH, NO3 and O3 at 295 +/-3K and 740 +/-5 Torr. The obtained reaction rate constants, k were as follows (expressed in cm3 molecule-1 s-1):kCF2CF2+OH = (1.23+/-0.21) x 10-11, kCF2CF2+NO3= (1.77+/0.74) x 10-15 and kCF2CF2+03=(4.80+/-0.62) x 10-21 (all values are with 2 sigma uncertainties on the experimental data). CF20 was identified and quantified as the only oxidation product from the above reactions.The results obtained indicate a chemical lifetime of tetrafluoroethylene in the troposphere of about one-day by typical 24 hours average OH concentrations of 9.7 x10^5 molecules cm-3.
