Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

The aim of this project to promote the use of stainless steels for the food industry, domestic equipment and distribution of drinking water.

In order to reach this objective, it appeared necessary to evaluate the behaviour of SS compared to non-metallic materials like plastics, aluminium and organic coatings regarding to sanitary and hygenic properties. In particular, interactions between materials and micro-organisms which promote biofilms formation acting as a spring for microbiologival contamination must be thouroughly investigated.
