Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

In 1992 a common information-exchange system was established by cooperation between various parties but had to cope with the problem that for historical reasons the data sources for DOGMA were organized in terms of individual claim boundaries. The structure of the data-base has been improved by DMA using PROLOG-systems and the resulting IS system can now provide access to data from coal mines in different countries. The IS system is particularly useful for decision-making because of the large number of standard applications which the software offers. There are very few statistical problems relating to coal-mining data which cannot be solved by a commercially-available spread-sheet calculation. There are certainly no coal-mine graphical representations which cannot be depicted by means of a standard CAD-program. It must be recognized that standard programs do contain faults but these are normally corrected as soon as they are recognized and the present systems are sufficiently flexible to provide more than one means of solving a particular problem. The standard software is available all over the world in the language of the user country.
