This report concentrates upon the iron-bath process in particular and deals with 2 different situations, viz. a complex post-combustion model embracing i) a 3-dimensional considerations of speed, temperature and combustion fields and ii) a non-spatial time-related calculation covering not only the post-combustion zone, but rather the iron-bath reactor as a whole. The first model was used to simulate post-combustion procedures under a wide variety of parameters such as the rate of nitrogen gas supply, the rate of air flow, the rate of addition of carboniferous material and yielded 3-dimensional distribution patterns for gas-speed, flame profiles, the materials being combusted together with temperature fields. The position and direction of hot-air blowers was also investigated and the optimum configuration established. Time-related functions of the plant were also simulated by the second model which provided information about the formation of drops of metal and of slag, characteristic rates of flow, the elimination of carbon, metal-bath height, slag conditions, carbon content, bath temperature and degree of post-combustion. Both models will be further developed and the post-combustion version has already been used for calculations about gas-space conditions in the Cyclone Converter Furnace.
