Abstract

Locking modes have occasionally been seen during TCV plasma ramp-up. Since they lead to disruptions, some approaches had to be found to avoid them. Typically, the remedy has been to increase the triangularity or modify the plasma density. In this paper we present the results of a study carried on the regions of the operational domain where the locking modes occur, together with suggestions for operation scenarios which avoid regions with significant probability of encountering locking modes.
