Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

There are too many approaches to controlling NO(x) emissions from coal fired plant, namely combustion measures and flue gas treatments. There are a range of combustion measures which can be used including, low NO(x) burners, air staging, flue gas recirculation, reburning and combinations of these. Combustion staging is commonly employed in power stations in the UK and throughout Europe, either using low-NO(x) burners, over-fire air or both, and is sufficient to meet existing legislative requirements for NO(x) emissions. However, more stringent legislation will require alternative methods to be adopted.
