Abstract

With increasing environmental legislation regarding the release of pollutants such as NO(x) to the atmosphere new techniques for the control of their release are continually being developed. The reduction of NO(x) emissions by means of fuel staging, or reburning, is an advanced combustion technique which to date has not been widely applied in commercial plant retrofits or new installations for pulverized coal firing. However, this technique has been shown to offer further reductions over those achieved by air staging without resorting to more expensive flue gas treatment processes.
