First global linear gyrokinetic simulations in 3D magnetic configurations
Neoclassical theory has been the main focus of transport studies in alternative magnetic confinement devices in the recent past. It is quite well developed and has identified configurations with enhanced neoclassical transport properties. In contrast, the effects of micro-instabilities on transport, though extensively investigated in tokamaks, have received little attention in 3D configurations. The code presented here is a modification on an earlier code (aimed at the investigation of Ion Temperature Gradient (ITG) modes for such 3D magnetic configurations), improved by the implementation of the extraction of the fast spatial variation.
