Abstract

The RTMOD project concerns the evaluation of the long range dispersion model prediction capability to predict in real-time the concentration of potentially harmful pollutants dispersing into the atmosphere as a consequence of accidental releases. Twenty six meteorological and nuclear safety institutes are participating to the project and the JRC Ispra acts as co-ordinator. The practical aspects of the project consist in the selection of a fictitious release location, duration and strength, which are communicated to the participants right after its supposed occurrence via fax or email. The participants are then demanded to submit to the JRC the results of their forecasts within a few hours. The model results are then statistically comared and the results displayed on the web.
