A method to generate surface UV radiation maps over Europe using GOME, METEOSAT and ancillary geophysical data
This paper presents a method for generating surface UV irradiance maps over Europe, that takes into account the influence of the solar zenith angle, the total column ozone amount, the attenuation by clouds and troposphoric aerosols, the surface elevation and albedo. The maps have a spatial resolution of 0.05 deg. In Longitude and latitude. The processing scheme exploits information derived from satellite and non-satellite data. Surface irradiance can be estimated on a half-hourly basis and then used to generate maps of daily UV radiation doses. The maps can also be consistently generated with past data. A preliminary comparison with ground measurements is presented and discussed.
