Abstract

In this paper, the reasons why quality is needed in environmental chemical measurements are highlighted, as well as the notion of 'quality' itself. Next, specifically for the area of chemical measurements, an attempt is made to review the present situation and to put this into perspective relative to other measurement sectors. Finally, recent evolution of concepts related to internationally structured measurement systems are elucidated.
