In the first TRABANT experiment four different high Pu content fuels were irradiated in HFR Petten. The irradiation of the fuel pin prepared by mechanical mixing of powders and the Ce-Pu fuel with an O/M ratio of 1.931 were halted prematurely due to the failure of the fuel pin and meting of the fuel respectively. The melting of the latter fuel is most likely due to the poor thermal conductivity of the Ce-Pu oxide at low O/M ratios. Post irradiation examination of the failed U-Pu fuel pin has been initiated at ITU. First results show a major failure at the top of the fuel column, with a closed central channel and a partially molten cladding
