Systemes d'information integres med-crop et la coast mediterranee
In the framework of the Euro-Mediterranean partnership, established by the Declaration of Barcelona (1995), the Agriculture and Regional Information Systems Unit of the CCR (Centre Commune de Recherche) is using its expertise and acquired experience to help the MARS and Lacoast projects. The development of Integrated Information Systems in the Mediterranean is in response to a need expressed by the countries of the south and east of the basin, and by regional organizations (Action Plan for the Mediterranean). This need is to have basic information on agriculture and on the environment at their disposal, as well as the tools for analysis and decision making. The Med-Crop and Mediterranean Lacoast projects aim to improve the quality of agricultural production forecasting in the Mediterranean basin and to advise on coastal development policy. After an introduction on the general framework of co-operation in the Mediterranean within which these two initiatives lie, the article develops these two areas in both scientific and technological terms.
